The past month has really been a blur of preparing for our imminent departure from Tübingen. We sorted our stuff into various categories:
- Keep and ship
- Keep and carry
- Toss and give away to friends or friends of friends
- Toss and put out on the street for random folks to take
- Toss directly into the trash
As you may recall from my posts about the trash (here and here), just throwing stuff in the trash isn’t necessarily straightforward. Luckily, I haven’t needed to figure out how to toss out things like unwanted candles and cables: sticking stuff out on the street with a sign “take it for free!” works remarkably well.
The packers/movers come tomorrow to pack up and cart off everything in category 1 above. We have no furniture that we’re keeping. But for 2 people who move a lot we have a lot of books that we have with us at this point that we do want to keep, so that adds some weight to the shipment. 😉
Thanks for all the comments and emails over the past few weeks — I realize I have been very remiss in replying. A few quick responses all at once are here:
- Re A Pig in a Decke: Will, I couldn’t agree more. These had no appeal for me, so I decided I would photograph the photo, but not actually try them. 😉
- Re Monday Mysteries: A Looking Glass: Dovie, I agree, this is a great idea that all stores should have! So clever, and so handy!
- Re Food on Fridays: Creating the Cookies: Will, yes, Chris’ grandparents owning a bakery clearly set the stage early for a sweet tooth. 😉 Mom, the cookies were tasty, and did arrive whole.
- Re Monday Mysteries: Qualified Expat: Will and Stan, your comments and suggestions are so noted. However, I think perhaps “wanderers” might work better for us. 😉
- Re Discovering a Changing Demographic: Thanks for the message about changes in language in the U.S. over the last 10 years – interesting reading, and I’m sure it will be interesting to adapt to it once we’re back in the U.S. BTW, Jack, I haven’t run across “metrics” used in a way I find odd — I guess it wasn’t part of my demographics. 😉 (Also, glad to hear you enjoyed the Life on a Gelato Diet book – thanks for checking it out!)
- Re Food on Fridays Eclipsed: Thanks for all the compliments – glad everybody enjoyed the photos!
Getting back to the topic of our move, Chris and I are still in our apartment until early next week. We fly to London Tuesday night as the first leg of our Plan G adventure. More about that to come next week, as well as an update about the new blog I’ll be switching over to.
After all, “Two to Tübingen” won’t apply as a title very well once we’ve left town, right? So there will need to be a new blog with a new title to chart our new adventure.
Stay tuned…
How do you get so much accomplished in such a short time? Have you considered a book on time management?
Thanks, Jack. Maybe that should be my next book… 😉
