Oh the weather outside…

… is still snowing. It started on Saturday, took a quick break on Sunday, but then came back yesterday, and has snowed — on and off, but mostly on — ever since. However, it’s a very light snow, mostly, so there hasn’t been piles and piles of snow. Just enough to make things messy.

But clearly, the song for this week is Let it Snow  — although the weather here isn’t really “frightful” as it says in the lyrics. 😉  But Snow Miser from The Year without a Santa Claus is clearly in control of the weather at the moment, since it’s gotten down to below freezing and seems to be staying there. Of course, I’ve never minded Snow Miser‘s jazzy little theme song, even if I’m not a fan of cold weather.

Anyway, I took a few photos on Saturday and then again yesterday. I was trying to time it when the “big flakes” were coming down. However, the big flakes don’t come down for that long each time. So, in the gallery below you’ll see a variety of approaches to taking snow photos. Including using “split-tone” color effects. Well, what can I say – there are only so many photos taken from my window that I can look at before I start to play with them a lot in my digital darkroom.

I know, I could go out and tromp around more in the snow… but Baby, It’s Cold Outside.

Anyway, enjoy the photos below, as well as the songs linked above. BTW, the link for Let it Snow has a version performed by the German rock group Cascada, last heard of (on this blog) at Eurovision, and the Baby, It’s Cold Outside clip is performed by a couple of non-musical people in an old musical movie. Apparently, everybody has performed these songs…

  1. The abstractions from #5 on are really something!

But wait a minute, were all of these shot from the comfort of your home?!? Do you have plans to get out in the cold and the slush and discover other lens-worthy sights to tickle the eyes and minds of your fans?

  2. Thanks, Will. Yes, you’re correct, all these photos were taken while standing inside the apartment. Most were taken with the window open but #5 was actually taken with the window closed. 🙂 After doing errands in the cold and slush, I haven’t been inclined to head back out. But perhaps tomorrow – I’ll see what I can find to tickle the eyes and minds… even if it’s outside the window again. 😉

  3. For some strange reason, I liked all your street and roof pictures. Maybe it tickles my fancy that you “magnify the ordinary” or you “glorify the common,” or whatever it is, it has sort of a raw appeal, down to earth, earthy, etc. Actually, you have always been good at snow pictures. I seem to remember a snow contest a few years back when you were in Connecticut. (By the way, the close-up of the roof across the street in #6 is kind of eery. I think it is because of that vertical nob but I can’t explain it. Well, at least it is a holy roof.
