Hidden Venice

They — i.e. the people who write the guidebooks — say that part of the charm of Venice is getting lost on the back streets. That way, you’ll be sure to see the “hidden” Venice. By “hidden Venice”,  they mean the non-touristy part of Venice.

On our last night in Venice at the beginning of October, we arrived at the restaurant a little too early for our reservation. So before dinner we wandered around the back streets near the restaurant. Of course,  wandering around in Venice means wandering not along back streets, but along small side canals and over tiny bridges.

Which means, I guess, that the photos I took while we wandered show the “hidden” Venice. Except I think there were enough people around that the bridge in the first two photos isn’t exactly a secret.

But maybe what else I discovered there, which is in the last two photos, is. 😉

Enjoy.

  1. Your pictures of the Venice bridge reminds me of why we love Venice so much. Actually, I was struck by your 2nd bridge picture and the quite visible oval that the reflection created!
