The Emerald Tree

While walking down the street the other day, I spotted another interesting puddle reflection.

Unlike most of my puddle reflections, I haven’t turned the photo upside down, so the perspective in the photo is just as I saw it in person. What struck me was the vibrant green of the leaves in the reflection in the puddle – it’s rare that the colors are so naturally vibrant when they are reflected in a puddle like that. But the leaves in the puddle almost looked like glittering emeralds hanging from the branches of the tree. The sun was so bright behind the leaves, that the actual leaves on the trees were actually a light green at that moment, but in the puddle they were a deep shade of green.

I’ve included both the original, un-retouched photo, as well as my cropped and slightly adjusted photo. Note that the main brightness adjustment I have made in the cropped version is to tone down the bright sunlight on the grass; I haven’t adjusted the green of the “emeralds”, but the area around them in the photo is a bit darker, which makes the green seem just a tiny bit different from the original.
