Not always what it seems

Montpellier’s old city center was more or less built in the 1800s, and has many monumental style buildings modelled on buildings in Paris which were constructed at the same time. You can see several examples of those types of buildings in my previous post here.

However, Montpellier also had a few buildings that I stumbled on, which were decorated in some really well-done trompe l’oeil paintings. Have a look at the photos in the new-style photo gallery below. Click on any of the photos to see a bigger version of the photo.

Once in the gallery, there are “previous” and “next” buttons to navigate you through all the photos in the gallery.

Also, you can click on the dimensions of a photo (listed above and to the left of each photo in the gallery) to open the full-size photo in a new window

Plus, below each photo in the gallery is a description that has my comments (if any) about that photo.

Welcome to the new style photo gallery. I’ll be curious to know what you think – of both of the photos and the new format. 🙂

  1. Wonderful photos. Love the paintings. The gallery is great, but There was a problem getting out of it. I clicked on the small type above left of highlighted name of journal page. So maybe this could be remedied.

  2. Thanks for the feedback on the photos and on the gallery. I’m not quite sure where you clicked on the gallery page. To get back to the blog entry from a gallery of photos, click on the name of the blog entry above the photo (it’s in two places, one right after the dimensions, and one a little bit further up and to the left of that). Let me know what you clicked on that didn’t work and I”ll see what I can tweak to improve it.

  3. As i began to look at the paintings on the buildings, it suddenly dawned on me that in Palo Alto, Calif., there must have been 20 or more of these painted scenes all over town and they were fascinating. They are always interesting and I enjoyed looking as these as well.

  5. @stan – yes, those were really cool paintings on those buildings/houses in Palo Alto back in the day. I think I’d read where they were painting over them at some point, thought. Perhaps Dovie can comment on whether or not they are still there.
