… weil sie den Tisch nie erhalten haben. That describes the outcome of my day today. Before I tell you what that means, you will first need to recall that a couple of weeks ago, the furniture store people showed up – unannounced – with 4 chairs that we’d ordered to go with the kitchen table, which we’d also ordered. Our neighbor signed for the chairs, and so we had chairs, but no table. When I’d called to find out what had happened to the table, the guy at the store said that it would be here by November 14th, a date which he claimed would technically fulfill the “beginning of November” date which had been promised on the original order form back in September.
Right.
Anyway, November 14th came last week, and what do you know, the guy actually called me about the table.
That was the good news.
However, the news was that the store hadn’t received the table from the manufacturer by November 14th.
That was also the good news.
You see, that meant that the store hadn’t fulfilled the order, so we now were finally eligible to cancel the whole thing. I have grown to dislike this particular furniture store enough that the thought of actually having to pay them for anything at this point was rather annoying.
Now, since the 4 chairs they’d unexpectedly delivered were intended to match that now mythical table, I wanted them to take the chairs back, too. That was potentially a bit trickier, since we already had possession of the chairs. However, once they figured out that we hadn’t as yet paid for the chairs, they were (not surprisingly) willing to come take them back. That’s what finally happened today – 2 guys showed up, I signed a piece of paper to attest that they were taking the chairs, and away they went.
So, the translation to opening sentence of this post is “We have no chairs now because they never received the table.”
Can you tell that while I waited for the furniture people today I started studying for my upcoming German test? 😉
*******
In previous “waiting for furniture delivery posts” I have included a photo or two that came about as the result of playing with a photo while waiting for the furniture people to arrive. Today I mostly studied German while I waited, but that’s not as visually interesting, even though I did include a litle of that in this post.
However, I did in fact play with a photo of the autumn tree reflected in the river that I posted earlier. Ashley had suggested seeing what it looked like in black and white, so I did a few variations in that vein to see what it looked like. Thanks for the suggestion, Ashley!
Here’s what the results of my trials today look like – see what you think.
I like the b/w and antique b/w. Can’t decide which I like better.
I quite like the straight black-and-white. I feel with the colours gone I focus more on the form, spending more time exploring the interesting effects of the ripples on the reflection. The leaves on the water are also less obvious, which makes them almost a surprise to find.
