Furniture and a fountain

A few furniture updates today. First, I had to leave my German class early today to come home and wait for der Schrank, which means “closet” in German. I’d actually call it an armoire in English, since it’s freestanding, and the word “closet” in English always implies something that’s built-in to me.

On the upside, the Schrank arrived, and a mere  2 hours later the 2 workmen had it all put together.

OK, I exaggerate a bit – it only took them 1 hour and 45 minutes. This was not a simple piece of furniture to put together by any means. Clearly, if you’re not a professional, don’t try this at home.  😉 We didn’t of course — we paid an extra fee to have the pros do it.

I know, I know, you now want to see a photo of the Schrank. I will be wiling to oblige, but unfortunately not today. The bedroom is now a mess with the piles of stuff that need to go in said Schrank, and I can’t bring myself to take a photo of chaos that’s decidedly unphotogenic. And beside, there’s more furniture still to come, so I think I’ll do a whole tour of the apartment furniture at a later date. Picture a large armoire, a really, really large armoire, that’s black and brown and that will have to tide you over in terms of getting a picture of it in your mind.

Another piece of furniture news concerns our kitchen table and chairs. The store where we ordered those piece from has been a nightmare to deal with.  It’s the place I called last week and spent over an hour on the phone with them. At the end of all my phone calls, the way it was left was that the table was still on order, and the table and 4 chairs would be delivered together later in November when the table had arrived. The idea was that they store would send a letter saying the table had arrived, and then we could call to set up the delivery.

So, of course, Chris gets a call yesterday morning that the delivery guy was outside our building, waiting to deliver the chairs. Chris was at work at the time and I was at class … as I said, we hadn’t been told the chairs were coming.

Fortunately, we have a nice neighbor who was home, who gave the chairs a temporary resting place until I got back from class. I called the furniture store today to find out when the table will arrive, since the info we’d gotten last week about the delivery was clearly a little faulty given the fact that I’m sitting here surrounded by the chairs. I spent a bunch of time on hold again today, talking with various people at that store. The upshot was the same as last week: the table is on order and will be delivered sometime later in the month. They will send a letter when the table arrives so that we can call to schedule the delivery.

Right. In other words,  I should probably tell our neighbor to be on the alert for that table in the meantime. 😉

Anyway, last week, while I was on hold with that store, I played with making some variations of one of my photos. I did the same thing today, and the results are at the bottom of this post.  Fortunately, I didn’t have to stay on hold as long, but that did mean I had time for fewer variations on the photo. So, without further ado, and on a day you probably wanted a photo of furniture, I give you instead two variations on a fountain.

Enjoy.

  1. Prediction: When the table arrives, it will be accompanied by four more chairs.

  2. I guess this is called progress in Germany.

You mean after the armoire gets put together there’s still stuff to be inserted? Or do you mean the clothing and such to be hung up.
