Punting on the Neckar

Punting on the Neckar is a popular pastime here in Tübingen, both with locals and with tourists. You rent a boat that seats at least 10 and hire a professional “punter” to propel the boat, or maybe try your hand at driving it yourself if you’re so inclined. The idea is to glide down the Neckar, sailing around the island that sits in the middle of the Neckar river across from the old city center. That island is usually always just on the left edge of those standard postcard photos of Tübingen, including the one yesterday.

That’s about the sum total of my knowledge about this boating activity at this point, unfortunately, since we haven’t done it, and I haven’t researched it in great detail. However, the boats have been a constant sight on the river during every sunny day since we’ve been here. So, I thought it was worth a quick mention now, even without the full story to report, since I do have a few photos to share. Of course, if that old saying is correct, and each photo is worth 1000 words, you could consider this a 7000 word blog post about punting on the Neckar. I’m just saying. 😉

  1. These lovely photos of the river are making me a little less sad that you left Bolzano before I managed to come for a visit.

  2. Thanks, Dovie, I hope that you are inspired to come here before we leave, then!
