Here in Germany, as far as I can tell, they don’t have a sweet dessert that’s like a North American pie. Continue reading
Colors of Sunset
Is the glass half empty or half full? It depends on your point of view, of course. Continue reading
Friday Followups
Today is another one of those posts which is a mix of small stuff and answers to questions from the comments. I’d intended to be better about answering questions more regularly – best laid plains. My only excuse is that Ich habe viel um die Ohren, which loosely translated mean “I’ve been up to my ears with things to do.” Continue reading
Start of the Season
Happy Thanksgiving to all of you in the U.S. – hope you all got your fill of turkey, stuffing and all the rest of the trimmings today! Continue reading
Ready for Heaven and Hell
We’ve only been in Tübingen 2.5 months, but we already have a clear favorite restaurant, Zum Gutenburg. That’s the place down the block from us where we get all those egg and maultaschen dishes that I’ve written about. Continue reading
A Touch of Frost

You see, they turned off the water in all the fountains around here last week, and it’s not quite as exciting to take photos of dry fountains. But luckily, just before that happened, I finally got some nighttime photos of one of the big fountains in front of a university building here in Tübingen.
A Place for that Pea
Back when we were shopping for bedding, our bedding “wizard” – aka the department store bedding salesman — didn’t know the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears. The only children’s fairy tale he knew of that had anything to do with beds and bedding was The Princess and the Pea.
23 Skidoo
We’ve lived in 2 different places in Tübingen. Our “vacation apartment” (up those 59 steps, you may recall) was #23 on that street. Our current place is #23 as well – funny coincidence.
