I’ve been experimenting a bunch lately with some photographic techniques and styles.
From another angle
You’re used to seeing the cathedral and the buildings in Tübingen taken looking north from a vantage point south of the town, since that’s where I most often take photos. But what if I were to walk up the hill closest to town and take a photo or two there instead? Continue reading
Back by the bridge
It turns out there is a webcam on a building near the Neckarbrücke that we only recently stumbled across on the internet. Continue reading
Return to the Alb
So I shared my posts from the past couple of days with one of our friends who took us on that outing on Saturday. And what do you know – it turns out that whole Alps conversation has been headed up the wrong mountain path. Continue reading
Wimsener Cave
Before we headed to that hillside on Saturday — for the cake, the coffee and the goat-gazing — we went to a place called Wimsener Höhle: Wimsener Cave. It’s a small cave that’s noteworthy in that it’s the only cave in Germany that you visit by boat.
On an Alpine hill
I’m not sure what the term “Alp” originally meant. I tend to think of the term as referring to really tall mountain peaks, like the ones in Austria, Switzerland or Italy. So it’s always been surprising to me that the hills that are not too far away from Tübingen are called the Schwabian Alps. Continue reading
Midnight Adventure

So, what if the door were to close one day, and the door knob didn’t work properly to unlatch the whatever-that-thing-is that goes into the door frame. How would you then open that door?
Good question, eh? Continue reading
Star ‘Shroom
As you know, Chris and I went walking near the Neckar River last weekend – I’ve been posting photos I took from there all week. But we also took a walk down at the other end of town, to an area where there’s a huge hill that sometimes has sheep grazing on it. In the winter, kids sled down the hill. Continue reading
Not quite unexpected
So after taking the photo that was in yesterday’s post, I looked to my left and noticed a nice photo op of some folks in a Stocherkahn, the punting boats that are popular here in Tübingen. Continue reading
Scene in the River
The swan yesterday was on a branch of the Neckar River, not far from where it hooks up with the main part of the river. Standing with my back to the swan, I looked out and saw the following scene in main branch of the river: Continue reading
