You can probably already guess that the title is literal. In winter, and apparently also in sometimes in the fall when there’s enough rain, the water in the Venice lagoon rises and floods the streets. It’s called the acqua alta, “high water”. On October 5th this year, the acqua alta started, and St. Mark’s Square was starting to flood. For a tourist, the main thing was that it made it difficult to walk around – they set up wooden planks above the water to walk on. I’m sure it has more serious implications for all the people who live in Venice, though.
On the upside for this visiting tourist, though, a puddle is a puddle. And you know what that means for my photos … 😉

A peak at the passerbys is great. Looks like they’re coming up from the ground.
I agree with Pat because I consistently like this kind of action photo in a puddle. On the other hand, I was rather stunned by the tower picture which was so unique, like none other of your reflections that I can remember.
Thanks for the comments! I think those two are my favorites as well (the people and the tower photos). Well, and also I’m consistently struck by how the ducal palace one looks like a double-exposure (it’s not). Fun!
