Truth in advertising?

At the risk of your wanting to murder me, that murder mystery on the British trains I promised yesterday just isn’t coming today. Tomorrow for sure, really. You surely know how it goes when a day just doesn’t go as planned…

So, today we’re back in Tübingen, with a curiosity Chris and I noticed on a vending machine sign at the train station:

Cigarette Machine, Tübingen train station, Germany

Cigarette Machine, Tübingen train station, Germany

I call your attention in particular to the juxtaposition of these two phrases on that cigarette machine:

Detail: Cigarette Machine, Tübingen train station, Germany

Detail: Cigarette Machine, Tübingen train station, Germany

Rauchen kann tödlich sein : “Smoking can be deadly”

Einfach so auf Knopfdruck: “Just like that, at the touch of a button”

Interesting, eh? Could we call this truth in advertising? Or, perhaps more likely, merely an unintended consequence of poor graphic design?

Or perhaps, the ad is intended for people who don’t actually understand the German….
