Quiet contemplation

Happy Thanksgiving to all our friends and family in the U.S. Since I realize you’ll all be busy with the meal today, I’ll just offer a single photo that I took in a quiet spot near the Anlagensee.

The statue in the photo is situated in some bushes near the Anlagensee; you can’t see the lake in the photo at all, as it’s behind the bushes and trees.  I don’t quite understand why the statue in that spot, actually, as she’s rather hidden.

In my photo, she seems to be closing her eyes to lean in and smell the flower in front of her. Or maybe she’s using some sort of powder puff before or after her bath in the Anlagensee:

Of course, in actuality the flower is nowhere near the size it is in the photo.  It’s just a trick of  the perspective when viewing the statue from a certain angle through a camera. Kind of fun, eh?

  1. Before reading your description, I guessed she was trying to budge a giant toadstool. I like your story better.

  2. Interesting idea, Will. Perhaps the legend of the maiden and the attacking Giant Toadstool was one of those darker fairy tale by the Grimm Brothers before they made everything a bit happier and lighter … 😉
