I have been fascinated for a while with leaves and shadows, inspired by the work of Imogen Cunningham. So last weekend there was briefly a bit of sun on the leaves that led to some nice shadows. However, unexpectedly, I took the following photo where one of the things I like about it is the floating circle, not the light or shadow on the leaf itself:
So even though I thought I wanted to focus on light and leaves in my photos that day, when I looked through my camera’s viewfinder, I discovered that ball hovering nearby would make a fun photo. That just proves that it’s good to have a plan, but sometimes you just have to embrace the unexpected that comes your way.
That’s something Chris and I will be trying to do a lot of the next couple of weeks as we set off on some travel. This time, it’s a trip just for fun instead of being for a conference or invited talk. Chris has some vacation time that has to be used up by the end of the month, so we’re hopping on the train and heading to France, then England, and then back to Germany. We’re be visiting a variety of places, some familiar, some not. I expect there will be lots of unexpected and interesting things to see, which will make their way on to the blog eventually.
However, there won’t be blog posts every day during the next 2 weeks. But there will still be a regular Food on Fridays post every week. I have such a backlog of food topics that I want to blog about that I decided Food on Fridays should continue even while we’re traveling. So, tune in on Friday to see what the latest culinary topic turns out to be!
Regular blog posts will resume on other days of the week starting Wednesday, September 24th.
Have a good time and find the unexpected.
The ball, is that a light reflection on the lens?? Yes, the unexpected is the most amazing part of art.
Enjoy your vacation. Keep us posted. Love to you both
