Cat on a cold rock beach

Today we take another look at the cat I saw on the rocky beach in Reykjavik.

We first met the cat here on the blog back in June, when I posted the photo below.  As I took this photo of the mountains and the boat, the cat stalked toward me across the rocks:

See him there down on the right? The cat came closer and wandered around my feet for a while, perhaps trying to tell me it was ready for its closeup.  However, I ignored it at first. After a while it got bored and went over and sat down behind a low wall that divided the sidewalk from the rocks.  I then managed to snap a portrait of it:

It’s a good example, actually, for the next time I teach a photo workshop about portraits (as I did last week);  it clearly shows  the “portrait style” for a photo, where the subject is in focus, and the area around out is out-of focus.

Anyway, just for fun, I played around very quickly with it in the digital darkroom, and did this alternate version where the whiskers stand-out a bit more. See what you think.

BTW, more photos from Reykjavik  — but no more including cats — coming later this week…
