It’s been very cold here in Tübingen for the past few days, with temperatures consistently below freezing. The rivers in town haven’t frozen over like they did a few years ago, though, so it hasn’t been that cold yet (thank goodness!).
However, it’s been cold enough that when the river runs fast and splashes up some water, as it does in places along the Ammer River, plants with tendrils hanging down start growing little “blossoms” of ice.
I tried to get a couple of photos of this phenomenon, which I snapped pretty quickly since having my gloves off to take the photos was cold. The photos have a few random vertical streaks of white in them: that’s the snow that was coming down as I took the photos.
However, I should also note even though it was snowing where I was standing, I could see blue sky off in the distance in several directions. Go figure, eh? The weather patterns here are definitely odd on occasion.
Anyway, see what you think of the today’s Tübingen “ice blossoms”.

I think those ice blossoms are cute! I also like the name itself! Do other people call them by this name or did you make it up?
Thanks, Stan – glad you liked my made-up name for them! 🙂
