The fountains in front of the Neue Aula building are my favorite fountains in Tübingen. In years past, the fountains have been turned off in October for the season, so a couple of weeks ago Chris and I headed over there to take some more photos.
Two versions of a single photo of one of the fountains are below. I like experimenting in the digital darkroom. In these photos, I started with the color photos I took and changed them to black and white, emulating the “color-blind” film that people used in the early 20th century (and which I also talked about in a previous post). The color-blind film is not sensitive to all the colors; colors such as green or red, for example, will be rendered as black in the final image. I thought it would be interesting to see what would happen to my original photo under these kind of conditions, since the background for the fountains, from the angle I took the photo, contained mostly green leaves and bushes, the color of which is not “seen” by the film.
So, what I got in the darkroom was what I suspected: the resulting image looks like I took it at night, even though I took it in the middle of the day, on a somewhat sunny day at that.
Anyway, see what you think.
They are great.
Thanks, Mom!
