While Chris and I are trend-setters when it comes to our coffee choices, we are apparently tourists who buck the trends when it comes to visiting sites in Europe.
Well, at least that’s what it says in this article in the Guardian newspaper about Disneyland Paris, which claims that “While visitor numbers are down, the park [Disneyland Paris] still pulls in more people than the Louvre and the Eiffel Tower combined, making it Europe’s biggest tourist attraction.”
Really? Disneyland Paris is Europe’s biggest tourist attraction? Go figure. At no point in the last 6 years of living in Europe have Chris and I ever even thought about visiting Disneyland Paris.
However, we did visit both the Louvre and the Eiffel Tower on our recent visit to Paris. While at the Louvre we saw many works of art, everything from the very, very famous (e.g. Mona Lisa, Venus de Milo) to the very, very old (Babylonian sculptures, figures and tablets). We spent the better part of a day there, actually, which is still only enough time to see small fraction of the works on display.
At lunch time that day we decided to head to the regular restaurant in the Louvre, as opposed to their self-service cafe. There aren’t many benches in the Louvre galleries, and the restaurant, while more expensive than the cafe, had the definite appeal of being a place to sit down. The food, as it turned out, was actually quite good, but what was even better than the food was the view from the balcony you can get to from the restaurant. I’ve included two photos below taken from the balcony, one looking to the left, and one looking to the right. Note that in both photos the sky has been slightly adjusted for contrast and lighting, but not otherwise altered.
Enjoy.
