Although the title may sound a little mysterious, I mean intend it literally. You see, the big Stiftskirche (Evangelical Church) in town has a huge set of wide steps that people sit on in nice weather, often eating their lunch while they are sitting there.
Unfortunately, many of them then leave their trash behind on the steps. So, when I was walking by there yesterday I spotted this plastic fork left yesterday on one of the steps. I thought it could make an interesting photo:
I didn’t take it because it was a plastic fork draped over the step pointing down, though.
You see, it wasn’t really pointed down like that at all. Here’s the scene as I really saw it:
But when you flip this picture upside-down, the fork appears to be facing the other way down the step. It’s another illusion of light and shadow. And the idea that it might work like that was what prompted me to take the photo as I was walking by.
Look at that – it turns out it’s not just reflections in water that I “see” upside down in my head when I take a photo. 😉

Tomorrow is May 1st, which is the Labor Day holiday here in Germany. I’ll be taking tomorrow off from the blog, but back in time for Food on Fridays – on Friday. See you then!
