Perspectives on 1066

I realize the title of the post may sound like it’s a research paper on different ways of thinking about the Battle of Hastings in 1066, since when I hear 1066 that’s what I think of.  However, the post is really presenting  different ways I processed a photo numbered 1066 in my digital darkroom the other day.  The theme for our photo group this week was “angles”, and so I took photos of things that I thought would make for interesting photos with angles.

What intrigued me about this particular photo was many of the angles seem to be “3D” objects in the photo, but are really just illusions.  It’s not done with smoke and mirrors, as the saying goes in English, but rather with light and shadow. Of course, some of the impact in a few photos is also achieved by cropping and rotating the image 90 or 180 degrees. But I like how just changing the colors and contrasts really changes how you see the shapes and angles in the different variations on the same photo.

The same photo which just happened to assigned the number 1066 by my camera.

See what you think. Just so you know, the last photo is actually the original, unedited version for comparison.

  1. I like the ones with color, not sur if 7 or is my favorite. Very interesting again proving pictures can lie?

  2. Thanks, Mom. #7 or which one? Just curious. I don’t think it shows that photos can lie so much as it’s possible to create interesting effects just with light and shadow. 🙂
