A German San Francisco

It’s not quite time yet for the Eurovision contest to be heating up. But Cascada, the group that performed last year’s Germany entry, popped up recently in the most unlikely of places and it seemed worthy of a mention here on the blog.

The San Francisco Chronicle periodically has puff pieces that list the 10 best of this or the 10 worst of that.  Last week there was a post about 10 terrible songs about San Francisco. And sitting there at number 5 on that list was Cascada, with their song San FranciscoClick here for the music video of that song, which seems to draw heavily on stock footage of San Francisco. The Chronicle piece comments that the group’s use of “Frisco” to refer to the city in the lyrics of the song indicate the group has never lived in San Francisco.

I don’t know about that, but the song sounds like every other Cascada song that I heard last year when writing up the blog posts about them. So, I’d have to agree with the Chronicle review that it’s not exactly the greatest song about San Francisco. However, who would have thought that there would be a connection between Germany and San Francisco in song, eh?

  1. Nothing’s impossible, oh, wait, is that a song cue? Or am I imagining it?

  2. Thanks for finding this. I just didn’t recall it was from an Astaire picture and I had the song title wrong too. But I knew u’d find it if it was a song.:)
