Halloween is not a big holiday here in Germany; there are a few bat and ghosts decorations here and there, and sometimes kids will dress up, but it’s much more low key than in the U.S. I just got back from the U.S., though, where all the stores, offices (e.g. the AAA office where I rented a car), houses, etc. are resplendent in their Halloween decorations. So, more so than in other years since we’ve lived in Europe, I remembered that today was Halloween. 😉
So, to mark the holiday, I’ve decided to post a few more of my photographic experiments that I did last month in the locally famous graveyard. The experiments involved seeing what would have happened if the color photos had been taken with black and white film, which creates a rather spooky effect in the graveyard. Which seems perfect for Halloween.
Just heard this day will bring millions of dollars to candy sellers and others. It has become one of the USA’s biggest holidays.
I like the all in green photo.
Even though they weren’t spooky, I did like a couple of pictures a lot. First, the 16 pointed star outlined in a speckled white. At first, I thought that was snow but since you didn’t have any other snow pictures, I’m guessing it was a flaky covering on the tombstone. However, the picture I enjoyed most was the tall ivy colored tree centered behind a short tombstone. The whole picture had a peaceful, verdant flavor to it. Nice.
Thanks! I like that one with the tree and all green around it, too – I glanced over, and it seemed like that tree was a giant figure towering protectively over the rest of the graveyard. Nice. Stan, you are correct that the speckled white was tomestone; I think it was more granite-light-gray until I fiddled with the contrast.
