Suspended above nothing at all

Chris and I made a short day-trip to the Black Forest area of Germany on Saturday. It’s less than 2 hours by train from Tübingen, but there are no direct trains that go from here to there – we wound up taking 4 different trains (well, two trains and two trams going there, and 2 trains and 1 tram coming back.

One of the striking things about the connections, is that many of the connections are made in Hochdorf bei Horb. You often have to transfer there to get to and from Tübingen to points east,  so you’d think that it would be a major station.

Or  at least a stop with an actual train station.

Or at least a stop with a soda machine on the platform in lieu of the train station cafe.

But no, there’s nothing there. You get off in the middle of nowhere, and stand around on the platform and hope the scheduled transportation is really coming, because if it doesn’t you are in the middle of nowhere.

Let me repeat — there is seemingly nothing there. As Chris commented, you can’t even call it a hole in the wall, since there is no wall. 😉

While we were standing there on the platform on Saturday afternoon, I looked around to see if there was anything interesting to take a photo of. The photo below is of the most interesting sight I saw.  I actually have rotated the image 90º to make it a little more interesting than it really was. 😉 It at least has something made of metal in it, which means I can use it for our photography group’s meeting this week, since our current theme is “metal.” I guess that’s something.

Anyway, hope you enjoy this glimpse of the scene and sky above the railway platform at Hochdorf bei Horb.

  1. Indeed. I would have settled for just a simple machine with some bottles of water. 😉
