Without a guide in Heidelberg

Back in May, I had the chance to go with our good Italian friends to visit Heidelberg, an historic university town in Germany. It’s an easy day trip from Tübingen, but Chris and I had never had a chance to go there.

The highlights for a tourist in the old part of town are the old bridge, the castle  on the hill, and the view of the Neckar River from the hill above the castle. There is a tram to take you up the side of the hill – I assume you can also walk, but the castle entrance fee includes the trip from the old town part up to the castle.

Oh, and in the castle there’s an small museum about the history of pharmacies.  Quite interesting – and of particular interest to one of our Italian friends, as she’s a pharmacist in Italy.

Anyway, it was a nice visit and I took a bunch of photos, as usual. But while I had sorted the photos a while back, I had been waiting until after I had time to label them  before I posted them. But, since I didn’t take notes on names of things, I was going to have to research things online before I could label some of them.  And I just haven’t had the time for that, unfortunately.

So, I decided to go ahead an post them today without labels. I think it should be pretty obvious based on my list above what things are (castle, river, pharmacy museum, scenic views). If you have questions, let me know and I’ll try to answer them. It may be easier for me to answer them this week, because Chris and I are headed to Heidelberg tomorrow to visit an old friend of the Culy family who is visiting Heidelberg this week with her husband. That should be fun. And it should also refresh my memory about the things in town.

You have time to get your questions together, too: since we’ll be in Heidelberg all day on Thursday, regular posts resume on Friday.

In the meantime, hope you enjoy today’s unguided tour to Heidelberg. 🙂
