A little more about leaves

I didn’t originally intend to post more leaf photos today, but I wanted to follow-up on something I forgot to mention yesterday. What might not have been clear, since I didn’t comment on it, was that photo #2 was of just one big leaf. The “little dark leaves” are really shadows falling on parts of that one leaf.  Fun, eh?

Here’s another photo of 2 leaves that made solo appearances in yesterday’s photo #2 and photo #3 (click the links here for yesterday’s photos  to open those photos in a new window). As always, you can click the photo below to open it a larger size in a new window:

Even though the bottom leaf is cut off on right-hand side, I think you can see a bit better here that “little dark leaf” on the top of the bottom leaf is really just a shadow on a big leaf. It’s an effect that I have been actively looking for when taking my recent experimental leaf photos.

Of course, I also like the way shadows form patterns on leaves in general these days, like what happens in the top leaf in that photo above.

Or what happens in this next photo. It’s a completely different leaf that the ones spotlighted in yesterday’s set — it’s from a different plant taken on a completely different day. The shadow patterns make an interesting contrast to the rest of the shape of the leaf; I have removed the distraction of the green color to emphasize the lights and darks:

Anyway, hope you enjoyed having more leaf photos today.  I’m sure you’ll be relieved to know that tomorrow we will leave that topic aside, at least for the rest of this week.

Sorry, I couldn’t resist. 😉
