This photo and the next one are from the same original, with slightly different “Black and White” settings to emphasize the branch and the water. Note that these two are NOT double-exposures.

At first glance it looks like the branches are both in the water and above it. But look again: only the branches above the water are real; the ones “in” the water are reflections.

Yes, even the darkest one that looks like it forms the bottom of the sideways “V” on the right. That’s a reflection, too.

The other illusion is that it looks like a branch touching the water has cause the ripple. Again, that’s not a real branch that seems to be touching the water, that’s just a reflection of the branch. The ripple was caused by some sort of insect in the water. There were similar ripples all over the top of the water in this pond, even where there were no branches or reflections. But those ripples weren’t as much fun as this one.
