Not the inside the York Minster

Inspired by the question the other day about minsters, I finally sorted through photos I’d taken at the York Minster back in September. It is the number one thing to see in York, and it is an impressive Gothic cathedral. You have to pay to look around, but the price of the ticket gives you access to a free guided tour while you’re there.

You have to pay extra to climb up the 275 steps to get to the top. Compare that to the number of steps at the Ulm Cathedral (more than 700 there), and you start to get a sense of just how much taller Ulm is than other large Gothic cathedrals. I’m not quite sure why I decided to climb up the stairs at the York Minster, but I did. So, in the series of photos below, you have views of the outside of the York Minster that including one taken from the top.

I’ve also included photos of some odd carvings in the Chapter House, a building attached to the York Minster, but technically separate from it. So, while they are interior shots, they were not  taken inside the minster proper. Therefore, the post title is technically correct. 😉

I’ll put some interior photos of the minster in a different post another day.

Enjoy.
