So when I read Will’s comment on yesterday’s snow photos, it made me laugh. I mean, me, go to a desert? I thought to myself OK, I’ll have to make a note, since that’s not on the travel plan anytime soon.
But then it occurred to me that while on the beach in Florida at the end of March, on a blindingly sunny day, I actually had done the same kind of sun/shadow experiments as I did that day in Potsdam with the snow. Only I hadn’t sorted through them yet. So I did that this afternoon.
Here’s a quickly sorted series of sun, sand and shadows. Not quite the desert – the ocean is lurking just off camera. But the patterns on the sand, the interaction with the light and shadows – all of these could have found in a desert.
OK, maybe not one with seagull feather, but still, you get the idea.
See what you think.

Now that’s an impressive response. Thank you! As expected, the new set are just as striking as yesterday’s. Is it too much to ask for a comment on the cryptic Arabic script in the bottom three? Maybe they were shot in Islam-orada??
Thanks, Will – glad you enjoyed today’s set as well! I did forget to mention that the “chicken scratch” you see in the sand in a couple of those photos is actually (we think) “hermit crab scratch” – there were trails from one little hole to another all over that part of the beach one morning. It did look just like some kind of unknown ancient writing system – we’d need to find the Florida version of a Rosetta Stone someday to crack that code, though. 😉
