The Adige River runs through Verona, and there’s a nice walkway that runs alongside a good part of it. We had a chance to stroll along two different sections of it on this trip.
In today photos, we’ll stroll north along the left bank of the Adige, from the Ponte Navi to a point about halfway between the Ponte Nuovo and the Ponte Pietra. Ponte means “bridge” in Italian, btw. Here’s a map that has the bridges marked:
We didn’t quite make it all the way to the Ponte Pietra on that walk. It isn’t really that far, but we were starting to get hungry, and there aren’t any cafes along that walkway. So, we detoured back into the old city proper (which is the part below the river on the map), heading over towards the Cathedral. I’ve included a few photos from the Duomo (“cathedral”) below as well, although technically that wasn’t seen on our walk along the Adige. However, the cathedral is just down the block from our favorite little osteria (restaurant) that we went to for lunch. IMHO, this restaurant is the best place to go for Veronese dishes like bigoli con ragu d’asino, or sfllacci di cavallo, two local specialities we sampled again this time. We’ve been going there for years; the wife of the couple that owns the place always remembers us, even though we are only able to go there once or twice a year. It’s definitely one of my favorite places: great food, great wine, great atmosphere.
Anway, below are some recorded memories of a great day spent strolling around Verona.
I do remember pleasantly walking along the Adige when Judie and I were on our own and your pictures brought to mind the scenes that we saw also. At first I liked the view of the Pone Nuovo with the large overhanging tree. Then I liked version two of Sun and Silhouette because the outline of Chris’ features were clearer. Then I liked the reflections in the four windows of the Cathedra. That was lively. but I think my favrorite picture was the last one which allows one to enjoy the wavy pattern behind the flowers.
