Night in Verona

I always enjoy walking around in Verona at Christmas time, since the city is usually decked out with season decorations, including the massive metal Christmas star that emanates from the L’Arena, the old Roman amphitheatre at this time of year.

While seeing the star is good any time of day, some of the other decorations show off to their best advantage at night – a selection of photos of decorations I took this year are below.

I’ve also included below some shots of the full moon that we saw the night we arrived – it was about the brightest moon I’ve ever seen, and certainly the brightest I’ve ever tried to photograph.

Plus, the very last 2 photos have things that are a bit of a mystery as to how they wound up in the image. They weren’t there in reality, but there they were in the photo (I could see them on the camera monitor just after I took the photo).

Anyway, hope you enjoy a little holiday-themed nighttime walk around Verona.

  1. Nice pictures!

If you rotate the umbrella and overlay it on the uncropped UFO, I suspect the two floaties will align. I’d guess you have a faint dried-water mark on the lens. Check both ends!

  2. Thanks, Ashley! I agree that the umbrella and UFO probably are related and variations of the same thing somehow. And the water-mark idea is a good guess … but truly, there was no water on the lens when I looked at it after I took the umbrella photo, nor after I took the next photo. And then the next photo after that had no trace of it, nor did any other photos have it. And there was no trace of it when I did a thorough cleaning of the lens the next day.
Perhaps a UFO floating by is really the only explanation, eh? 😉
