A non-flying kite

Along the edge of the field at the bottom of that hill the other day was a set of trees. High up in a tree there sat a perfectly shaped kite, caught in the branches, hopelessley out of reach from its owner and no longer able able to fly.

The shape of it was what I think of as the shape of a proper kite, but I haven’t seen in it years. It’s the kind of kite the kids and their father make at the end of the movie Mary Poppins.

Anyway, below you’ll find a cropped version of the original photo I took of the kite in the tree in Tübingen. I’ve also included  a couple of  “photo-based-art” versions, where I’ve applied a bunch of filters in Photoshop Elements, just for fun. You can view the photos while listening to this clip of the song Let’s go fly a Kite from the movie Mary Poppins that I found on YouTube.

The catch is that the clip is in German, since I couldn’t find a good clip of the English version on the internet. But, since the kite you’ll be looking at in my photos is German, it does seem only fitting to hear the song in the language of the kite.

Enjoy.

  1. wonderful love the new art. Now with the song in mind make a story up about the kite. I remember having to write a paper in English that explained how to do things. I choose flying a kite so that the end I could tell the professor to go fly a kite. ha aha

how do you indicate laughter like ha ha at the end of something inane in German?
