High on a Hill

Happy Thanksgiving to all our friends and family in the U.S. today! To answer a couple of FAQs regarding Thanksgiving and Germany: yes, they do have turkeys in Germany, but no, they don’t have a holiday centered around eating one here, at least, not to my knowledge.

I don’t have any photos of turkeys to offer today, but in celebration of this American Fall holiday, let me instead offer a few Fall photos taken by an American on or near a hillside in Tübingen.

Chris and I went wandering last Sunday around another “uncharted territory” — uncharted by us, that is — that was just a few blocks beyond the building where he works.  Crucially, it was a few blocks that took off in the direction toward the outskirts of town. In less than 5 minutes, we were suddenly smack dab in the middle of the countryside. There were even sheep grazing on the hillside. Who knew town and country were so close together in Tübingen.

However, since I was disinclined to scramble up the slope, my snapshots center on scenes of the surroundings rather than on the sheep, even though the sheep were the most striking subject on the side of that hillside on Sunday.

Be thankful that I haven’t figured out how to extend that accidental alliteration any further. Happy Thanksgiving!

  1. Several of these scenes resemble our entry driveway into the complex. Especially the street shadows and tree and bird in autumn.

  2. The title reminds me of the song in the hills are alive-High on a hillside sat a lonely goatherd yodel la de, yodel la de, yodel la he hoo I would put a link in here but don’t think I could. Beautiful pictures especially the red tree and pink sheep
