I’d like to thank everyone who communicated ideas, both in the comments, via their Facebook pages, and/or via email regarding ideas for a song about “time” to go with Wednesday’s post. Fun!
I’m giving the award for the best song suggestion to fit with Wednesday’s post to Will for the song Does anybody really know what time it is. A classic fit for that theme.
BTW, in my class yesterday everybody agreed that the museum staff definitely didn’t give the impression that they know there’s even supposed to be a particular time associated with that particular watch.
Anyway, since I was intrigued that people were inspired to contribute alternate song ideas, and since the suggestions prompted me to think of a few more as well, I decided to post links to more songs related to “time”. Who knew that an anecdote from the founding of a German province 60 years ago, combined with a seemingly slightly off-kilter exhibit at a little museum in Stuttgart, Germany could provide such an extended musical interlude on an American woman’s blog:
- Does anybody really know what time it is? (performed by Chicago)
- Time Warp (performed by a Flash Mob that’s quite good, thanks to Kathy for this interesting link for this song)
- No Time at All (from Pippin)
- Time in a Bottle (performed by Jim Croce)
- Time Heals Everything (performed by Bernadette Peters)
- This is the Moment (as suggested in yesterday’s post)
- Time after Time – there are two different songs by this name, I’ll let you search YouTube to pick your favorite, the jazz standard or the pop/rock song by Cyndi Lauper.
- Just in Time (the clip I found on YouTube is from the movie Bells are Ringing; as much as I like movie musicals, there’s something odd about the staging after Dean Martin sings the song through the first time)
But I digress. OK, well, this whole blog post is actually a digression today, since I’m afraid I’ve strayed rather far afield from the history of Baden-Württemberg.
However, Monday will be time enough to travel back in time for another story from the museum. Stay tuned, and have a good weekend.
Just in time was adapted for Dean from the musical. As Hollywood is want to do, they rarely film the movie as performed on Broadway. I didn’t look it up, but I recall Sidney Chaplin in the play ( a hunk as they say), not sure what his relationship was to Charles. Another sign of my age.
My friends and I agreed Sidney was better than Dean.:)
I really enjoyed the links to the “time tunes”! What a great way to spend time.
