Not always what it seems

Technically I was out doing errands this morning when I decided to cut across the Neckar Island on my way to a different part of town. While on the island, I kept seeing things that fit into a general category of not being what they seemed to be, in one way or another.  Whether it was noticing — not for the first time — a building that by all rights should be a castle when compared to the actual castle in town … or seeing buildings that were so bright and clear that they should have been real, but they were in fact really reflections …  or noting colorful blue water that was really the blue of the sky, not the water …

Well, it was clearly a moment to abandon some of my errands and take time to reflect on taking some photos.

The photo gallery below has a few examples from this morning’s photo shoot. Note that except where indicated for one of the photos, I have NOT otherwise adjusted colors in these photos. Flipped them when necessary, of course, though … but you knew that I would.

  1. I liked the reflections of the tubingen castle best and I too was amazed at the quality of the blue in the reflections. Is this due to the calmness of the water?

  2. Thanks, Stan! I think the clarity of the reflections, and the blueness of the sky as reflected in the water, was partly due to how clear the air seemed that day (even though the sky has some clouds) and also perhaps the stillness of the water (there weren’t any ducks or swans swimming around in that part of the river).
