Seen at the beach

In Florida we stayed in a hotel that was right on the edge of the beach, as small hotel with simple apartment-type units, which, for reasons I can’t fathom, is called the Oceanfont Paradise Resort Hotel.  Funnily enough, I watched the recent movie The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel (2011) on the flight over the U.S. In that movie, the hotel is not as luxurious as the name implies. And our Florida hotel wasn’t what I think of when I think “resort” – but unlike the people the movie, I knew what I was getting before we got to Florida. It’s a simple, clean, very pleasant little place, with the primary attraction — for us — being that location at the edge of the beach.

Staying there allowed us to stroll along the sand before breakfast each morning. Nice.

Here’s a selection of serendipitous sights we saw the first morning we were there. Click on a thumbnail below to enter the gallery to see larger versions of each image.

More beach (and other) photos from the Parenti Tour 2012 coming next week.

Seen at the beach — 5 Comments

  1. I always look forward to your mini-collections of photos and a chance to comment on them. The lizard with the orange balloon throat was certainly a shocker. I, too, have never seen anything like it and am glad you actually got a picture of it! I liked the picture of the flying pelican and the picnic basket as well as close-up #1 of him in flight. However, artistically, I liked the silhouette of trees the best. It, too, was a surprise since I don’t usually see trees on the beach either.

  2. Love the pelican in the air photo.

Guess being on the beach makes it a resort.

  3. Remember those big trees near the beach on one of the Hawaiian Islands?

    Was it Kauai?

  4. Thanks for the comments!
@Stan: Thanks. I also liked the trees – very unexpected to see those on the beach. I was very pleased to get the pelican in flight photos, too, though. And that lizard was showing off his red pouch to us but initially a little camera shy about showing it off once I pulled the camera out. However, after many photos snapped just after he did it, I finally got a couple in his full glory. 🙂
@Mom: yes, maybe that is the technical definition in hotel-speak for a resort. I remember the trees near the beach in Hawaii, but these trees were actually on the beach in Florida. Unusual.
@Kathy: Thanks. The lizard was definitely cute. The Florida beaches are pretty, but best seen early in the morning or late in the day – it’s hot there in summer (no suprise, of course). 😉
