Approaching Storm

As I walked by the postcard shot spot this afternoon, I was struck by the gathering clouds over the church steeple; it had been clear and sunny not 10 minutes before. I don’t know why, but the rapidly changing weather continues to bemuse me, even though it has happened more often than not the past few weeks here in Tübingen.

Anyway, what also struck me was the clarity of the reflection of the “postcard shot” buildings in the Neckar, since the sky was darkening rapidly. When a swan kindly swam into a photogenic position, I decided I just had to stop and  take a photo:

As I snapped it,  the contrast between the white swan and the darkening clouds appeared — in my mind’s eye — a little more dramatic than was I was seeing in reality.

Of course, I never let reality stop me from getting another photo:

I should point out that it’s just as well the sky was not actually that threatening today, since in reality, I was still a good 5-minute walk from home. 😉

  1. Looks like a photo for the beginning of a scary story.

On the weather front, we left the apt. this morning and it was pouring rain, forecast was for downpours and thunderstorms. By the time we got upstairs to the front entrance and Barbara’s car, it had stopped raining and five hours later when we returned the sky was threatening with the sun peaking through. We didn’t see a drop of rain in all that time. Nor hear any thunder. Strange weather.

  2. it is amazing what you can do with a little photography trick. It is quite ominous indeed. I am glad it wasn’t that way when we were there.
