It’s been about a week since the ice disappeared on the Neckar. So, I figured we should check in with in today and see how it’s doing.
In addition to the standard “postcard shot” , provided for comparison purposes with the older ones, we have a series that I call “River Glow”. The light was just right to capture some odd/interesting effects with the sun and the water, plus swans (which are back with a vengeance), and a leaf. Note that while I have adjusted the contrast a bit in these photos, I have not tinkered with the color in these photos. What you see is the effect of the striking morning light (on February 20th) and afternoon light (on the other days).

P.S. My original title for this post was Morning Glow, until I realized that I had uncharacteristically taken most of these photos in the afternoons, not in the mornings on my way to class. Go figure. Anyway, the song Morning Glow has been running through my mind ever since, so here’s a clip of it. It’s from the 1970s Broadway mustical Pippin.

I am always amazed at how you manage to get floating leaves, birds to be an aesthetic quality of your picture. How they obey you!
Great pics love the color that is back. It has been very gray here for a while. I went out to take pictures of the sunny day, picked up vin and by the time we got 1 mile away the sun left and besides I forgot to put my camera in the bag. So we both had a great walk through the woods.
Love that picture of the swan glow. Everything has a nice golden look.
Kathy’s right, how come those swans and ducks seem to appear plus that one golden leaf when you take your pics.
It looked like a warm day and I don’t recall seeing that many people walking along the rive. Was it a really nice day.
Today we had sun and temp in 60’s. Winter seems to be elsewhere.
Fine by me.
My favorite picture in this bunch was the lonely leaf lying on a lovely pattern of ice.
The depth and breadth of your knowledge of musical numbers continues to amaze.
Thanks for the comments! @Kathy, I would say that the swans are just trained to pose for the photos here, but then that wouldn’t explain the leaves… 😉 You need to always keep a camera in your bag – these photos were all taken with our little “point and shoot” camera, not my DSLr. 😉
@Mom- it was a warm day when compared to the weather recently, but it was still cool enough to bundle up. Today’s weather was actually much warmer than when I took these photos.
@Stan – glad you liked the leave! It’s actually water with reflections and shadows that it’s on top of – all the ice is gone.
@Ashley – yes, I have a plethora of those Broadway show tunes lurking in my head… Hope you’re enjoying them. 😉
