Continuing my series this week of the Neckar River under snow and ice, I have some photos from early evening yesterday, plus photos from this morning.
Last night, as I walked by around 5:00pm, there were a few crazy people standing on the frozen river. No reports of anyone falling in, but given that the edge of the river near the bridge is not yet frozen, it seemed a bit risky to venture onto the ice. IMHO. Apparently, I’m not the only one who things so – according to what I heard today, it’s actually officially verboten until the depth of the ice reaches a certain level. Estimates are that the depth could be reached next week – temperatures are supposed to stay below freezing until then.
Anyway, you’ll see in the photos that the people weren’t the only things venture onto the ice – what looked like animal tracks could be spotted running across the ice this morning. No reports of any animals falling into the ice, either, BTW.
I’ve also included a photo I took last Friday, after we had the first round of snow, but before the river froze over. You can compare and contrast the river on a bright, sunny and cold morning on February 3, with the river on a less-sunny, but colder morning on February 9th. What a difference a week makes.
So pretty, but glad I’m not the one who has to walk to school
We had a dusting last night and temps were supposed to rise above
40 today, but you can’t prove it by us. We actually saw a little bit of snow on the grass as we drove out of the complex around 1:20 or so.
It doesn’t get sun until later. But it wasn’t as pretty as your sights.
Stay warm.
I liked your duck tracks and dark water picture. Speaking of the Neckar River, did I see on the map that it goes down to Heidelberg?
i love the picture with the yellow sky. We don’t get much yellow here. Only when the sun sets at 2-3 due to a blizzard. Actually it is not just yellow, but beautfiul photo anyway. Your photos are mighty fine. thanks for your skill and knowledge and your aesthetic qualities in all you do and the grace in which you do it.
Always love your “postcard” shots…!
